This polyester throw has built-in heating wires between its layers. It runs on 12 volts, so it’s easy to power with a portable battery at a football game, in the backyard, or at a campsite—no extension cords needed! It also comes with a 120V-to-12V adapter for indoor use with standard household outlets.
I’ve used this throw to keep my legs warm during games and while stargazing outdoors. It works great. On the high setting, it uses 60 watts (5 amps at 12V). Medium draws 45 watts (3.75 amps), and Low uses 30 watts (2.5 amps). With my 17 amp-hour 12V battery, I get about:
3.4 hours on High
4.5 hours on Medium
6.7 hours on Low
That’s more than enough time for most outdoor evenings.
The throw’s fleece side is soft and cozy, with curled fibers about a quarter inch long. The plaid side is smoother, with short threads about 1/8 inch long. Only the outer part of these threads is colored, so brushing the fabric against the grain reveals uneven white “roots.” I’ve included a photo showing how it looks with and against the grain.
The care tag says it can be machine washed if you place it inside a laundry bag.
Followup: After two weeks, the heating element stopped working. There is no practical way to fix the heating wire. However, the throw continues to be a warm lap blanket even without the electric heating wire.
Pros:
Stays warm for hours with a portable 12V battery—no cords needed.
Comes with an adapter for use indoors with wall power.
Cons:
The printed plaid side shows white thread roots when brushed against the grain, which looks uneven.
The heating wire may stop working.
