One has to be careful when purchasing a NACS to CCS1 adapter. If not built an engineered well, it could be a safety hazard, cause a fire, or cause property damage.
From inspection of this item, it at least appears that this manufacturer took the effort and time to design a quality product.
– Product is very heavy and robust, weighing in at 2lbs 3.4 ounces. Without having the instrumentation to do deeper testing, the heavier weight materials may be a sign of better quality components, better shielding, and not skimping on materials
– The specifications seem to match those of the Tesla unit. (500A current rating up to 1000VDC)-
– The unit has special temperature sensing circuitry that will shutdown in case overtemp conditions
– The manufacturer placed many sheets of certification, including a UL one. However, it is not specifically UL 2252, which is the new safety standard for electric vehicle conductive charging systems. To be fair, the UL 2252 standard may not have been out yet in time for the design and release of this product, but it does appear to have all the indicators of a quality product.
– The product includes two beefy dust caps for each end of the adapter
– The product comes well packaged in a die cut foam box. It does not come with a carrying case, but the packing box could be used for safe storage
– This unit has great value. Being only currently priced at $50, it is much cheaper than other similar 3rd party adapters currently on the market. But from inspecting the build, the pins, the design, the attention to detail with the safety certifications that were available at the time, my guess is that this unit should work well. I plan to use this attended, keeping an eye on any overheating, but should it fail, a person would only be out $50 instead of $250 from an OEM supplier.
As the new UL 2252 standard has been released, this is something to look for going forward on charging equipment adapters. Even though this unit is marked “UL” and includes a UL safety card, it may not be compliant with UL 2252. Use with caution. But in my eyes, every indication appears so far that this is a quality built unit designed with safety in mind.
